Stoked!

Hello world!

This summer I am excited to be taking a couple courses about digital and social media. The best part (aside from learning new techniques and stuff) is that I will be staying in London with a fantastic group of women for three weeks. This blog is going to document the whole shebang.

London is, by far, my favorite city in the world. Every time I've gone, I always feel as though I've returned home, and I'm happy to be returning once again. One day I hope to move there permanently, but that's still a little far off in the future.

Though the class won't be meeting in person until July, I'm heading out about a week prior so that I can visit one of my dear friends who lives there. We met as penpals initially, but have developed a close friendship that has spanned almost seven years now. Apparently psychologists say that friendships that make it that long will last a lifetime. I guess she and I are stuck with each other now, haha!

I'll also be celebrating my twenty-seventh birthday while I'm abroad. Growing up I didn't have a whole lot of friends, so my birthdays were always family affairs, and as an adult I've made sure to celebrate it for myself. Getting people together for June 30th is hard when they are all making plans for July 4th. Usually I would head out the the American Library Association Annual Convention as my gift to myself, but this year I was granted the opportunity to return to London, get credits toward my degree, and experience things I likely wouldn't have otherwise. Easy choice.

I've been trying to tell a joke to one of my friends every day, and since I'll be gone for a month, I've decided I'll continue that mini-tradition here. Every post I'm going to send off with a stupid joke:

Did you see the movie about the hot dog? It was an Oscar Wiener.

  1. Love the blog Kirsten! I, too, am super stoked to be spending three weeks in London with our fabulous group. I foresee a lot of good times, goofiness, and laughter happening throughout the trip. And I think a pub night is in order to celebrate your birthday once we're all there! Looking forward to seeing you in July! Cheers!
